A magnetic chess game

LT-392879
Donata from Lithuania sent me something very special. She wrote me in a letter, that she doesn't really know what card she should send me and took so much effort in finding one, that I just have to send her a thank-you card! The card she finally used is an amazing one! The card was made my Himalayan people and is something like their traditional art. Absolutely gorgeous!
Donata also sent me this magnetic chess game and put some fantastic stamps on the envelope.
Thanks again Donata! Made my day!

Lottery
Since I don't receive any cards from Austria via Postcrossing, I had to start and try my luck in an austrian lottery in the postcrossing forums. Et voià: I won this amazing card from Vienna, showing St. Stephen's Cathedral, St. Michael's Church, Peterskirche, St. Josefskirche (there is only a german wikipedia article available), Karlskirche, Votive Church, Maria am Gestade and St. Rupert's Church.
Thanks again for the great lotto Anna!

Margie from Rhode Island sent me this card. It shows the dome of the State Capitol. On the card it says:

"Constructed of white Georgia marble, the State House, also called the State Capitol, rises 235 ft. to the statue of 'The Independent Man' at the top. The unsupported marble dome is one of only four of this design in the world. Designed by McKim, Mead and White. This view looking straight up shows the beautiful interior details."

A great card - thanks Margie!

Harp Seal

Marine Life and Sea Creature Tag
Seals are one of my favorite animals, so I join the Marine Life and Sea Creature tag from time to time, hoping to receive a seal card. On Friday I found this beauty in my mailbox. The card shows a Harp Seal and gives some information on its back:

"As soon as the female Harp Seal weans her pup, she is ready to breed again with the promiscous males who have been anxiously waiting in large herds on nearnby ice flows. Courtship begins on the ice with males enticing the females to mate by calling, blowing bubbles, pawing and chasing the females down. Mating typically takes place in the water and a female will often mate with more than one male. As a result the female is typically pregnant for eleven months of the year."

Thanks for sending me this lovely card!

Betty - by Gerhard Richter, 1988

Thank you card
I also received a thank-you-card from Gabriel today. The card shows a painting by Gerhard Richter. On its back it says:
"The artist's daughter Betty is painted with photographic detail. She sits very near to the surface of the picture, as in a close-up camera shot. The painting could not really be called a portrait of Betty, however, as it teaches us very little about her. Richter has chosen to paint his daughter as she turns away; her face is invisible. Instead he has concentrated on the red, white and pink patterns of her jacket and dress, and her hair gathered at the back of her head. Richter has undermined accepted notions of painting and representation, giving us a painting that looks like a photograph, a portrait that literally turns its back on convention. Continually discovering new ways of expression, Richter's work is extremely diverse. The wall in the background of this painting resembles some of the very different abstract works that Richter creates. These monochrome, thickly painted canvases evoke sadness and despair and were executed in response to the Vietnam war."

Ever since I knew Gerhard Richter, I loved his paintings! Stunning!
Thanks Gabriel for the amazing card. Made my day!
