The Hope Diamond

The Hope Diamond

My postcard pal Dan from Atlanta (USA) sent me this stunning card of the Hope Diamond from the National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution). Dan obviously knows about my passion for jewellery!
The text on the back of the card says:
"The Hope Diamond was cut from the famous 'French Blue', which was brought to France from India in 1668 to become part of the crown jewels. The French Blue was stoles in 1792 and never recovered, but in 1812 an extraordinary 45.52 carat deep blue diamond came on the market in London. Later it was purchased by Henry Philip Hope for whom it was named. In 1949 the gem was acquired from the estate of Mrs. Evelyn Walsh McLean by Harry Winston, and in 1958 he presented it to the Smithsonian Institution. It is shown here in a diamond and platinum necklace designed by Pierre Cartier for Mrs. McLean in 1910. "
Many thanks for the gorgeous postcard Dan!

881 - Long-Lost Card

That's what a long-lost card looks like...

FAVORITES TAG
Oh my... take a look on this card of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York! Gina sent it on August 19th and it took a long time to get to me. At some point I started to get impatient and asked Gina, whether she already sent the card. Sorry again Gina, for being so impatient. After I finally received the card, I knew why its journey took so long. It probably got shred in a postal machine!? Anyway, I'm more than happy to own this very unique card, because it brought me a marvelous chat with Gina, a wonderful person. Many thanks Gina, for all your effort, the lovely card and all the beautiful stamps! :)

Margie from Rhode Island sent me this card. It shows the dome of the State Capitol. On the card it says:

"Constructed of white Georgia marble, the State House, also called the State Capitol, rises 235 ft. to the statue of 'The Independent Man' at the top. The unsupported marble dome is one of only four of this design in the world. Designed by McKim, Mead and White. This view looking straight up shows the beautiful interior details."

A great card - thanks Margie!
